Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are closing in on Gary Neville's pre-season target

Manchester United’s new strike force of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have all made a big impact since their arrival in the summer.

The priority for Ineos in the last summer transfer window was to overhaul the attacking department and deals were struck for Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

The trio came in to replace the outgoing trio of Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford – and all three signings have had a positive impact in their debut season.

Mbeumo is United’s top scorer in 2025/26 with 10 in all competitions, while Sesko is on a scoring streak in 2026 after scoring his seventh goal in eight games in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Man United attacking trio on track for Gary Neville’s target

At the start of the season, Neville set a target of 35 goals for United’s signings, suggesting that would be a successful season for the trio.

“Can they embed in themselves at United? Can they get them probably 35-40 goals which would probably be par for those three players?” Neville said, as quoted by Hayters.

“But they’ve got to settle those three players and we can’t take that for granted anymore at United, I don’t think.”

Combined, Sesko, Mbeumo and Cunha already have 25 goals to their name this season, despite United playing a 40-game season.

There are now 10 games remaining in the Premier League, and the attacking trio have hit great form under Carrick’s tenure. They are on track to reach Neville’s target.

Gary Neville owes Benjamin Sesko an apology

Earlier this season, Neville called Sesko an ‘awkward’ player, but the Slovenian is now proving his critics wrong.

Neville has continued to criticise Sesko, suggesting he will never be a “perfect” striker. But as a 22-year-old talent, he is enjoying a strong first season at Old Trafford.

Sesko is one goal away from matching Mbeumo as United’s top scorer for the season, and considering he has only started one match under Carrick, his scoring rate has been impressive.

Cunha and Mbeumo have received plenty of praise for their debut seasons at United, but Sesko deserves just as much credit for adapting to a new league as a young player.
