Double exit: 'Desperate' £50m Man Utd star needs to be sold with Zirkzee regardless of next…

Manchester United have some big decisions to make with their squad when it comes to the summer transfer window.

While it appears as though it could be a big summer of incomings, especially if they qualify for the Champions League, there will also be some conundrums over who needs to leave Old Trafford if Man United are to push on again in the 2026-27 campaign.

The Red Devils are currently on course to qualify for Europe's elite club competition as they lie third in the Premier League table, with as low as fifth likely to guarantee Champions League qualification next term.

If they do make it, GIVEMESPORT sources have already revealed that United could sign a versatile left-sided player, a right-back and a striker in addition to the two top central midfielders they want.

Should all of those players arrive, it is natural that some will need to go out the other way.

Zirkzee Needs to Go This Summer

Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee reacts to a decision vs Burnley

Joshua Zirkzee has long been linked with a move away from United, including during the January transfer window, but the summer finally needs to be the time he does leave Old Trafford.

United signed the Dutchman from Bologna for £36.5m just over 18 months ago, but he has never held down a consistent spot in the starting XI and his impact has largely been minimal.

Nine goals and four assists in 68 appearances for the club is testament to that, and if a new striker is to arrive for the Red Devils this summer, then Zirkzee needs to be the one who is sacrificed.

With Benjamin Sesko sometimes not starting ahead of Bryan Mbeumo in recent weeks under Michael Carrick, and with the option of Matheus Cunha too, United simply no longer need Zirkzee, whose minutes have been minimal in 2026.

Ugarte Needs to Leave With Zirkzee

Manuel Ugarte in action for Manchester United

Like with Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte is another who has never really done it in a United shirt.

The Uruguayan has failed to be a regular starter under Ruben Amorim or Carrick after he was signed by Erik ten Hag in the same summer as Zirkzee, even though Carrick labelled him as being 'terrific' around the squad and 'desperate' to be involved.

Ugarte has made just 65 appearances in 18 months for the club, with the majority of his 20 so far this season coming from the substitutes' bench.

The 24-year-old has just seven Premier League starts to his name next term, playing just 27 top-flight minutes since Carrick took over as caretaker manager.

Given those statistics and the fact United want to bring in two elite central midfielders this summer, it's difficult to see how there is room for Ugarte next season, regardless of who the manager is and Casemiro's summer exit.

The two new signings will compete with Kobbie Mainoo and captain Bruno Fernandes for a spot in the middle, depending on the formation the next manager plays, which will severely limit Ugarte's minutes.

The South American midfielder may have cost £50m when he signed, but United need to sell this summer and recoup as much of that fee as they can while he still has three years remaining on his contract.
