'Rarely makes'mistakes: Man Utd star's heroics have Micah Richards and Gary Lineker in complete awe

Micah Richards and Gary Lineker have both been deeply impressed with Senne Lammens’ debut season at Manchester United after the Crystal Palace match on Sunday.

Senne Lammens walked away from Old Trafford without a clean sheet after Maxence Lacroix scored for Crystal Palace in Manchester United’s comeback 2-1 win.

However, the 23-year-old Belgian shot-stopper put in another steady – and equally howler-free – shift across the 90 minutes for Man Utd’s encounter with Palace.

Lammens has kept three Premier League clean sheets in the seven matches that Michael Carrick has overseen as interim head coach since his January appointment.

Micah Richards tells Gary Lineker what has impressed him the most about Senne Lammens after the Crystal Palace result

Senne Lammens made four Belgian Pro League appearances for Royal Antwerp this season before Manchester United landed him ahead of the 2025 window closing.

The Belgium international arrived at Old Trafford on deadline day last September, with United paying an initial transfer fee of £18.1m to Royal Antwerp to sign him.

Lammens ascended to the United No 1 role under Ruben Amorim and there is little sign that the former Antwerp ace could be dethroned from his role in the future.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Micah Richards insisted that he needed to single out Lammens from Man Utd’s 2-1 Premier League comeback win on Sunday.

“Another player we have to applaud before we move on, guys, is the goalkeeper, Lammens,” he said.

Interjecting immediately, Gary Lineker responded: “Yes.”

Richards then continued: “You know when the talk is not about the goalkeeper, you know the goalkeeper is doing a good job.

“He rarely makes some [sic] mistakes. He keeps everything simple.”

Gary Lineker reacts to Senne Lammens’ impact at Man Utd as Micah Richards feels the same way about his assessment

Lammens has managed five Premier League clean sheets overall in his 22 appearances for Man Utd in his debut season at Old Trafford so far.

Lineker insisted that Lammens has impressed him and the former Barcelona and England striker singled out the Belgian shot-stopper’s “calmness” between the sticks.

“But no, I think he’s been really, really impressive,” he added.

“He’s got a calmness about him as well.”

Reacting to Lineker’s verdict on Lammens, Richards responded: “Exactly that, Gaz. He’s calm.”

Man Utd will now visit St James’ Park on Wednesday evening and the Red Devils will face Newcastle, with the Premier League kick-off slated for 8:15pm in the UK.
