Here, Mirror Sport takes a look at Manchester United's injury news and potential return dates after their win over Crystal Palace...

Man United secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, moving up to third in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils faced early adversity when Maxence Lacroix headed Palace into the lead from a corner. Luke Shaw was then forced off with illness, as interim head coach Michael Carrick later revealed: "He just wasn’t well. He was ill. We’ll see how he recovers. Hopefully it’s not too bad.”

Bruno Fernandes equalised from the penalty spot after Lacroix fouled Matheus Cunha. The Palace defender was initially booked but received a red card following a VAR review for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Benjamin Sesko grabbed the winner with a bullet header from a Fernandes cross. However, United's injury concerns mounted when Harry Maguire also limped off during the second half, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Carrick remains hopeful about his squad's fitness ahead of Wednesday's trip to Newcastle. "We’ll see with Harry. Hopefully he’ll be ready for Wednesday. I thought the boys who came on did really well for us and we needed it.”

The injury list continues to grow with Mason Mount, who has played just 30 minutes since Boxing Day due to ongoing fitness issues. Carrick said: "Mason is getting closer, he’s on the grass, he’s looking to train and be around it. We’ve just had to be patient, really."

Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt also missed United's win over Palace with injury. Carrick said: "Matthijs (De Ligt) has had a back issue, which has been a little bit sore to progress, really. He’s heading in the right direction. It’s the nature of the injury, the issue in the back, it’s a difficult one to pin down time wise. He’s definitely improving." On Martinez, Carrick said: "We will have to wait and see. He is close and he is not far away, but it is hard to say at the moment."

United face a quick turnaround with their next Premier League fixture against Newcastle at St James' Park on Wednesday evening.
