Noussair Mazraoui's praise for Michael Carrick exposes stark difference to Ruben Amorim

Noussair Mazraoui is the latest Manchester United star to speak highly of Michael Carrick as he continues to compete for a permanent appointment.

Michael Carrick has hardly put a foot wrong since becoming the interim head coach at Manchester United. The 2-1 win over Crystal Palace was his sixth win in seven matches.

Ineos are in the process of assessing managerial candidates ahead of a permanent appointment in the summer, and United fans want Carrick to stay.

Not only are supporters on his side, though, United players have rallied behind Carrick with several senior players backing him for the job.

“You really see that he knows the club, really feels the value of the club, because he has a great history here.

”He won big prizes, so he knows how it is in the good times, in the bad times, and you just see and feel that, and I think we also show that through these last games, of course.

“That’s not by luck or anything, that’s more quality and his understanding of the club rather than anything else.”

Michael Carrick has Man Utd history that Ruben Amorim didn’t

One of the biggest criticisms of Ruben Amorim during his time as head coach was that he often tried to steer away from club traditions.

United’s DNA has often been to have quick wingers, often playing in a 4-4-2 shape. Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation was alien to not only the players, but also supporters.

On top of that, Amorim’s criticism of United’s academy did not go down well with anyone associated to the club. Trusting in youth is what has made United the club it is today.

Carrick has been a big supporter of the academy since his arrival as interim, and it has not gone unnoticed.

Players are also admiring Carrick’s training techniques at Carrington, which involve shorter but more intense sessions. It seems his relationship with the club from his time as a player has helped to assert some authority, and players are buying in.
