Player focused amid talk of transfer to Tottenham – Not letting mind drift to move

Federico Gatti

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Juventus defender Federico Gatti in recent days, and amid that speculation the centre-back is keeping his head focused in Turin. He just saved Juventus from a derby loss against AS Roma.

Reports this week suggested Spurs could enter the race for the 27-year-old, with Igor Tudor’s future potentially key to any move. Nottingham Forest were also mentioned.

Now, fresh reporting from Gazzetta dello Sport offers an update on Gatti’s current situation – and underlines that Premier League interest has emerged.

Goal sends message as season reignites

Gatti scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser in Juventus’ 3-3 draw against AS Roma at the Olimpico, which may have caught Tottenham attention. The goal helped Juve stay in touch with 5th placed Como and maintain their advantage over Atalanta.

For the defender, it was also symbolic. Albanese writes that it was “a goal to reignite hopes” after an unusual campaign. Gatti began the season dealing with the aftermath of injury. Later, a meniscus problem sidelined him for a month from mid-December.

During that period, Juventus shifted from a back three to a back four. That tactical change has had consequences. Gatti is right-footed, while Lloyd Kelly offers natural balance on the left. Bremer, meanwhile, remains untouchable in the starting XI.

Still, Juventus decided to keep Gatti in January. The departure of Daniele Rugani created more fluid rotation options at centre-back, even if the overall number of fixtures has reduced.

Premier League clubs watching closely

Despite signing a contract extension until 2030 last summer, Gatti’s future is not fully settled. Gazzetta dello Sport report that several English clubs are considering his situation.

For now, the defender is focused on Juventus. The newspaper makes clear he has not allowed himself to be distracted by outside noise. His priority is to earn more space in Turin. Then he can send positive signals to Gennaro Gattuso in pursuit of a place in the Italy squad.

However, the possibility of an overseas experience is not ruled out. That leaves the door ajar for clubs such as Tottenham, especially if Tudor’s position becomes clearer in the coming months.

Spurs may need patience. Yet with Juventus having resisted offers in January and Premier League interest bubbling in the background, this is a situation that could resurface once the summer window approaches.
