Man United manager Michael Carrick has hinted that the club will extend one of their players’ contracts.

Carrick has been able to transform several players, including the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo, Patrick Dorgu, Luke Shaw and more, as they are now looking like first-team regulars, compared to how they were under Ruben Amorim.

Carrick hints at Maguire contract

Carrick has been full of praise for Maguire, as he has been starting every week under the interim manager and providing United with a level of stability and defensive experience, which they lacked under Amorim.

With Maguire’s contract due to expire in June, Carrick has spoken out about the centre-back and hinted that there is ‘more to come’ from the England international. He was quoted in the Guardian: “Harry’s an impressive character.

“He’s had a great career so far, hopefully there’s a lot more to come. The journey and the experiences that he’s had, certainly since he’s been here and with England as well, showed exactly what he is. I think we all know the player that he is and what he’s capable of doing.

“The other night [against Everton] I thought he was fantastic. Experience helps. His attributes help, and his character. His willingness to put himself out there. He’s really impressive at his age, and he’s been really important for us.”

Maguire has made 15 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Maguire dealing with an illness after Palace win

The 32-year-old started United’s win against Crystal Palace, but he didn’t get to celebrate the goals as he was substituted off with an apparent injury during the early part of the second half.

Carrick said after the game that he ‘wasn’t feeling too well’, and so had to come off. It means that he is now in doubt with an illness ahead of Man United’s next game, which comes against Newcastle at St James’ Park on Wednesday night.

Maguire isn’t the only doubt for the game, as Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez are both doubts for the Newcastle match, too. Mason Mount, Matthijs De Ligt and Patrick Dorgu also remain out, and they will miss the game on Wednesday, meaning that Carrick may have to get creative with his starting XI against Eddie Howe’s side.
