Manchester United face Newcastle United next and manager Eddie Howe has already spoken about how his side will approach the game tactically.
A difficult trip to St James’ Park awaits Manchester United on Wednesday evening as Michael Carrick looks to continue his unbeaten start as interim head coach.
United are aiming to do the double over Newcastle after beating the Magpies at Old Trafford earlier this season, but the Red Devils’ recent record on Tyneside makes for bleak reading, with the last victory coming in 2020/21.

Eddie Howe speaks about Newcastle approach vs Man Utd
Ahead of the Premier League clash on Wednesday, Howe spoke to the media in his pre-match press conference and was surprisingly open about what his tactical approach will be.
As quoted by The Chronicle, Howe said: “Our intention in every game is to get into them, be a proactive team rather than a reactive team. Attack them.
“They have tweaked things tactically; they have a really good atmosphere there.

“You can see an upturn in their general performance; they have some really good players. It is a chance for us to rediscover our best form at home.”
Clearly, Howe wants an intense, attacking performance from his players against United, but that could suit Carrick’s style of play perfectly.
Some of United’s best performances under Carrick have come when the Red Devils have space to counter-attack. Manchester City and Arsenal both tried to attack United and were punished by quick, incisive counters. Carrick can hope for a similar result at St James’ Park.

Newcastle injury news to face Man Utd
Howe’s press conference also included an injury update on his first-team squad.
United target Bruno Guimaraes is out with a hamstring injury and is not expected to return until April, so Newcastle will be without their captain.
Howe also confirmed that summer signing Nick Woltemade could be out with an illness: “Jacob Ramsey trained fine yesterday. Potentially a sickness in the squad, Nick Woltemade hasn’t trained through illness, but we will give him every chance for tomorrow,” Howe said.

Tino Livramento is also a doubt, while Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth are long-term absentees and will miss Wednesday’s clash.
Carrick is expected to provide an injury update on Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount in his press conference.
