'Absolutely battered': Ben Foster defends in-form Man Utd attacker and admits he 'didn't realise' how dominant he was

Ben Foster has raved about the stunning impact of Benjamin Sesko’s heading quality in Manchester United’s 2-1 comeback win against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Benjamin Sesko made his first Premier League start under Michael Carrick after being dropped to the bench under the Manchester United legend in recent weeks.

The 22-year-old Slovenian forward had netted three times in five appearances from the bench under United interim head coach Michael Carrick since January.

Carrick rewarded Sesko with a place in the Man Utd starting XI against Crystal Palace and the in-form Red Devils striker netted the winner with a header.

Ben Foster calls out Benjamin Sesko’s critics after the Man Utd striker’s surge in form under Michael Carrick

Benjamin Sesko has netted seven times in his last eight matches across all competitions under Ruben Amorim, Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick.

The Slovenia international had a slow start to life at Old Trafford after the Red Devils signed Sesko from German side RB Leipzig in a deal worth £73.7m last August.

Speaking after Manchester United’s win over Crystal Palace on Sunday, Ben Foster laughed in the face of Sesko’s detractors after the United star’s recent run of form.

“We’re going to move on from Man United in a minute,” he said on the Fozcast podcast.

“Benjamin Sesko, though, [has] been absolutely battered all season long: ‘Useless, flop, waste of money.’

“He scored seven and eight now in all competitions. The header that he scored on Saturday, Sunday, sorry, was a thing of beauty, wasn’t it?

“Getting across that front man, strong, powerful, precision, beautiful. He’s finding his feet, Benny.”

Ben Foster was surprised by Benjamin Sesko’s quality in the air after the Man Utd striker’s header vs Crystal Palace

Sesko’s second-half impact strikes for Man Utd against the likes of Fulham, West Ham and Everton all came with the expert finishing of his feet in recent weeks.

However, the Red Devils’ encounter with Palace was the moment where Sesko showed his aerial dominance and superb finishing with his heading of the ball.

Bruno Fernandes played a superb cross into the Palace box in the second half and Jaydee Canvot was easily outmuscled by Sesko in winning the dangerous ball.

Reacting to Sesko’s winner, Foster added: “I didn’t realise he had that header.

“That was so good, though, like, ‘Bam,’ and oh, lovely.”

Sesko turned Bruno Fernandes’ cross in with a superb low and powerful header past an outstretched Dean Henderson into the corner of the Palace net at Old Trafford.
