Bruno Guimaraes & Sandro Tonali linked with shock Man Utd transfer on eve of Premier League…

Newcastle United latest news: Two of Eddie Howe’s key players have been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent days.

Coincidentally, the story of interest from Old Trafford in the duo has emerged just ahead of Manchester United’s trip to St James’ Park. The Magpies and Red Devils will square-off on Tyneside in the Premier League on Wednesday night (8pm kick-off) with the hosts in desperate need of a victory following their defeat against Everton on Saturday.

Howe’s side have now lost three league home matches in a row and are still yet to win a Premier League match that Guimaraes has missed since his debut for the club over four years ago. The Brazilian’s influence has been sorely missed in recent weeks, despite an upturn in form away from home, and any rumours of a potential departure from Newcastle in the summer will undoubtedly ring alarm bells.

Tonali, meanwhile, has been left to step up in Guimaraes’ absence, but speculation over his future has continued to rumble on following reports on deadline day last month that linked him with a move to Arsenal. Tonali’s agent Giuseppe Riso quickly shot down those reports, but the midfielder’s long-term future on Tyneside remains up in the air.

In an ideal world, Newcastle United would build a team around Guimaraes and Tonali, both of whom have proven that they are among the best players in the Premier League in their position. However, with Champions League football looking unlikely next season, there will undoubtedly be a host of clubs circling for their top players this summer - even if they are reluctant to see any of them leave the club.

Manchester United ‘interested’ in Bruno Guimaraes & Sandro Tonali transfer

Guimaraes and Tonali are ‘top of the list’ according to the report alongside Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. The report also adds that the Red Devils will not find it easy to negotiate with Newcastle United and that the Magpies wouldn’t sanction the sale of both players this summer.

Other names such as Wolves’ Joao Gomes and Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton have also been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford this summer. Manchester United’s interest in strengthening their midfield options this summer comes after Casemiro announced that he would be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season - ending his four year stay at the club.

Whilst reports of Manchester United’s interest in Tonali and Guimaraes have lit up social media in recent days, it is pertinent to note the timing of the report, coming just days before the two clubs meet in the Premier League and, of course, Newcastle United’s reluctance to sell either player this summer.
