Manchester United might bolster their current squad with a duo of Newcastle midfielders in the summer, aiming to reclaim their position at the top of the Premier League. United remain undefeated under Michael Carrick, securing six victories from their seven matches since he took over from Ruben Amorim on a temporary basis.

New signings are being mapped out for the summer across both the coaching staff and first-team line-up. Supporters are advocating for Carrick's permanent appointment while potential transfers are being suggested for various roles.

With Casemiro set to leave in the summer, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali have been identified as prime candidates to fill the Brazilian's shoes. AS reports that the Magpies pair are high on United's midfield wishlist, alongside Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson.

Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and Wolves star Joao Gomes are also viewed as targets for a revamped midfield, with a substantial transfer budget allocated for Casemiro's replacement. It's believed that around £175million will be spent, giving United the freedom to invest heavily in their preferred options.

Initial, informal contact has reportedly already been established with both players and Casemiro himself has singled out Guimaraes as his successor within the team. Newcastle are rumoured to be negotiating new contracts with both players, but no extension has been finalised as yet.

Should Guimaraes and Tonali complete the Premier League move to Old Trafford, the permanent boss will face a challenge in determining their revised midfield set-up. Captain Bruno Fernandes has previously been mentioned in transfer speculation but United are planning discussions to offer him fresh terms in a bid to ward off suitors.

Academy prospect Kobbie Mainoo appeared destined for a loan departure under Amorim but has rediscovered success following Carrick's appointment. He is yet to receive a new contract though it is understood that United are locking in conversations to prolong his agreement beyond 2027.

The midfield isn't the only transformation anticipated this summer, with United keen on acquiring left-winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig. The 19-year-old features on their recruitment shortlist with Paris Saint-Germain and additional Premier League sides showing interest in the Bundesliga talent.

Diomande has registered 16 goal contributions thus far this campaign and Leipzig are likely selling the teenager in the summer. Marcus Rashford is currently on loan at Barcelona and might depart his boyhood team for a fresh opportunity in Spain.

This leaves United lacking on the left with Matheus Cunha, Patrick Dorgu and even Bryan Mbeumo being pushed onto that flank for the moment. With left-wing and central midfield addressed, United could go all out and recruit another striker to rival the in-form Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenia international has hit the ground running under Carrick, scoring seven times in his last eight outings. He will require reinforcement next season, with United competing for European football and an extended cup run compared to this campaign.

Rasmus Hojlund could come back from his loan stint at Napoli to offer assistance to Sesko after experiencing decent form in Italy. Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta was mentioned in January with the striker reportedly 'hoping' that the transfer would come to fruition.
