Bruno Fernandes set for 'crunch' Man Utd talks as Ineos identify three pivotal players to keep at Old Trafford

Manchester United came close to losing Bruno Fernandes last summer and Ineos are now planning crunch talks with the Portuguese playmaker about his future.

Bruno Fernandes rejected a £100m Saudi Arabia move last summer in a huge show of loyalty to Manchester United.

Earlier this season, though, Fernandes hit out at United chiefs and said he felt unwanted by the club.

Thankfully, the 31-year-old did stay put, and now Fernandes is breaking more records and even competing for the Premier League Player of the Season award with seven goals and 13 assists in 2025/26.

When Man Utd are planning to hold ‘crunch’ Bruno Fernandes talks

Fernandes has 18 months remaining on his contract at United, although there is an option to trigger a one-year extension and keep him at Old Trafford until 2028.

According to TeamTalk, United chiefs are planning to sit down with Fernandes and his team in the summer to discuss his future.

Sources suggest Fernandes has not shown signs of wanting to leave, despite the comments he made towards the hierarchy earlier this season.

Fernandes is arguably playing some of the best football of his United career, and he is showing no signs of slowing down in his early thirties.

United are eager to keep Fernandes on board, and it seems the Portugal international also wants to stay put at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes is one of three key players Ineos want to keep

Fernandes is not the only United player that Ineos will be holding talks with about their future.

The TeamTalk report adds that Fernandes is seen as one of three “pivotal” players in Ineos’ club vision.

They are also keen to keep hold of Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo – two players who have previously been linked with an exit under Ruben Amorim.

Maguire is in talks over a new contract with his current deal set to expire at the end of this season. There is also noise of Mainoo discussing a new deal after his resurgence under Carrick.

United are looking to rebuild their midfield in 2026 and Mainoo is at the heart of those plans. A new contract will reflect his importance to Ineos’ long-term project.
