Absolute Manchester United superstar told‘club can afford‘to let him leave’end of season

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has reportedly been told that the club can afford to let him leave, despite his significant contributions to the team, according to comments from former Red Devils winger Lee Sharpe speaking to GOAL.

Sharpe highlighted that while Fernandes has been instrumental in Manchester United’s attacking play — providing creativity, goals, and leadership in the midfield — the club may be considering a long-term strategy that could see them cash in on their Portuguese playmaker. United’s management are reportedly evaluating options to restructure the squad, potentially bringing in younger or differently-profiled midfielders better suited to the tactical evolution the club is planning.

He told Canal 11: “From the club’s side, I felt a bit like, ‘if you leave, it’s not so bad for us.’ It hurts me a bit. More than hurting, it makes me sad because I’m a player who has nothing to criticize.

‘I’m always available, I always play, good or bad. I give my all. Then, you see things around you, players who don’t value the club as much and don’t defend the club as much… that makes you sad.

“I could have left like many people do and said: ‘I want to leave, I don’t want to train, I just want to leave for 20 or 30 million, so they pay me more on the other side.’ But I never did that.

‘I never felt in a position to do it, because I felt that the empathy and affection I had for the club were the same. But it gets to a point where, for them, money is more important than anything. The club wanted me to go, I have that in my head. I told the directors that, but I think they didn’t have the courage to make that decision, because the manager wanted me. If I had said I wanted to leave, they would have let me go.”

Fernandes has been a standout figure since his arrival at Old Trafford, consistently topping the assist charts and serving as a key driving force in United’s transitions from defence to attack. However, off-field considerations, wage structure, and the club’s desire to refresh the squad have reportedly put him in a position where a summer transfer is feasible.

With several high-profile midfield targets already linked to the club, the hierarchy are weighing whether reinvesting the funds from Fernandes’ sale could strengthen multiple areas of the squad simultaneously.

Media speculation suggests that clubs across Europe — particularly in Spain and Italy — are monitoring Fernandes’ situation closely. His track record at United, combined with his international experience with Portugal, makes him a highly attractive target for teams looking to add a creative, goal-scoring midfielder capable of influencing big games.

For Fernandes himself, a move elsewhere could represent a new challenge after several seasons of carrying the creative burden at Old Trafford.

While supporters may be reluctant to see one of their most influential players depart, reports indicate that both the player and the club are keeping options open to ensure flexibility during the summer window.

Whether Manchester United actually decide to sanction a transfer for Fernandes remains uncertain, but Sharpe’s comments underline that even key figures are not untouchable if it fits the club’s strategic plans for the next campaign.
