Ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Newcastle United, Michael Carrick has explained why he has so much respect for his opposing coach, Eddie Howe.
Manchester United have an opportunity to extend their unbeaten run to 12 Premier League games when they take on Newcastle at St. James’ Park.
It marks a quick turnaround from United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday, with Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko forcing a second-half comeback against the Eagles.
Newcastle have been struggling of late after losing three consecutive top-flight fixtures at St. James’ Park, which bodes well for Michael Carrick’s side. The Magpies have conceded a total of eight goals against Aston Villa, Brentford and Everton respectively.

Michael Carrick hails ‘top coach’ Eddie Howe
In terms of Premier League form, Newcastle have gone backwards this season.
Eddie Howe’s side sit 13th in the standings, but there’s excitement ahead of a Champions League double-header with Barcelona later this month.
Still, a low finish in the Premier League could lead to questions about Howe’s future at the end of the season.

Carrick is convinced that Newcastle have a ‘top manager’ whom he has ‘huge respect’ for after creating a new feeling at his former club.
“Huge respect for Eddie and his staff,” Carrick said.
“I know some of them particularly well. From being there, I keep a close eye on. The feeling he has created is incredible.
“He is a top manager, top coach, and he will continue having success, I am sure.”
A win over Newcastle for United would ensure that the Reds remain in third place, with the next round FA Cup fixtures taking place this weekend.

Man Utd looking to do the double over Newcastle
After beating Newcastle 1-0 at Old Trafford in December, United have an opportunity to do the Premier League double over Newcastle.
Patrick Dorgu, who is currently out injured, scored the only goal in Ruben Amorim’s final win as United head coach.
That means United can complete a Premier League double over Newcastle for the first time since the 2020/21 season. The Reds won 4-1 at St. James’ Park and 3-1 at Old Trafford that season.
It bodes well that Newcastle will be without multiple players for the game.
