Man Utd are tracking Newcastle centre-back Malick Thiaw, according to journalist Christian Falk.
Speaking on the Bayern Insider YouTube channel, the Bild reporter said that the 24-year-old is on the radar of the Manchester club:

“He’s doing very well at Newcastle, and he’s feeling also fine in Newcastle. So, there’s no pressure on it [in terms of a summer transfer]. I heard that Manchester United have an eye on him.”
“Perhaps this is a more interesting solution [than a move to a team like Bayern Munich] at the moment.”
Thiaw only moved to Newcastle last year
The German sealed a £30m switch from AC Milan to St James’ Park back in August, and as Falk points out, he has had a good season.
Thiaw has made 41 appearances in all competitions for Eddie Howe’s side, including 39 starts. He has been pretty much ever-present during his first year in English football, having taken next to no time adapting to a new country and a new league.
Why are Man Utd interested in signing a centre-half?
It is more than likely that scouts are keeping an eye on Thiaw in case Harry Maguire does end up leaving Old Trafford on a free transfer this summer.
While manager Michael Carrick has hinted that the 32-year-old will sign a contract extension, nothing has been made official at this point. Even if he does put pen to paper on a new deal, a long-term replacement may still be needed next year. Buy a Maguire GOAT t-shirt from Printerval here.
Thiaw is at an excellent age and he has already proven himself in the Premier League. It is definitely a transfer story to keep monitoring over the coming months.
