Manchester United add‘standout’bargain star to their midfield transfer shortlist amid relegation worry

Manchester United have added another name to their midfield transfer shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window, with their new target offering a potential bargain opportunity.

Manchester United’s recent resurgence under Michael Carrick has left them in an amazing position, with a UEFA Champions League spot now well within their sights.

Following a hard-fought victory over Crystal Palace at the weekend, the Reds have climbed up to third in the Premier League, leapfrogging Aston Villa.

With European football almost a formality for the Reds at this point, it is expected that they will turn to the transfer market to improve their squad depth for what should be a far busier season.

The Reds will need to replace the out-of-contract Casemiro, as well as prepare their side to compete on all fronts across four separate competitions.

United add Fernandes to shortlist

As has been reported by TalkSPORT, United have added a new name to their midfield transfer shortlist for the summer, with them seeming keen to stick to their model of Premier League-proven players.

United are planning ‘another serious assault on the transfer market’, with the likes of Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson, and Sandro Tonali all in their sights.

Additionally, the Reds have added Mateus Fernandes to their shortlist, who has been described as a ‘standout performer’ in his first season at West Ham United on the Hammers’ website.

With the Hammers currently residing in the relegation zone, an opportunity for a bargain may open up if United are to be serious in their interest for the 21-year-old talent.

Fernandes an ideal option?

With three goals and three assists in his first season at West Ham, Fernandes has been a silver lining in what has been a very disappointing season for the East London side.

At only 21 years of age, Fernandes’ potential is seen to be sky high, and if his side were to be relegated to the EFL Championship, then there will surely be many top-flight sides after his signature.

With it being more than likely that United acquire multiple midfielders in the summer, an option such as Fernandes, who is extremely young and may join for a bargain fee, could be perfect for squad depth.

An all-action midfielder such as the young Hammer could be an ideal enabler if the Reds were to pursue a more luxurious target, such as one of the aforementioned names, who could fetch a fee nearing £100million.
