Fabrizio Romano says there is“already some movement”on Man Utd’s first summer sale

Fabrizio Romano has issued a clear update on the progress of a potential Manchester United midfield departure amid growing interest across Europe.

Manchester United invested heavily in reviving their attacking line, with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško, who have all proven to be essential aspects of Michael Carrick’s unbeaten run.

However, attention is clearly turning to the midfield with the announced departure of Casemiro already known in the summer of 2026.

Many names have emerged in conversation of his replacement, with the likes of Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali seeming to be the top picks, but fans could see multiple names brought in, as confidence grows of another exit.

Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano has issued an update revealing new information of a potential summer departure from United’s midfield.

Romano reveals Ugarte summer sale links

Uruguayan midfielder, Manuel Ugarte has not hit the heights that the club expected since his arrival in 2024. The 24-year-old arrived from a short spell at Paris Saint Germain to become one of the first summer signings of the INEOS era, alongside the likes of Leny Yoro and Matthijs De Ligt.

However, things quickly turned sour as Ugarte soon became the root of lots of criticism, leading to a lack of minutes and being replaced by fellow South American Casemiro.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained the progress of a move for Ugarte ahead of the summer window.

“Casemiro is leaving on a free, but around Ugarte, there is already some movement about some clubs interested,” he stated. “There are clubs in Italy considering the possibility to go for Ugarte, so there is interest from Italy.

“In the January window, Galatasaray were interested, but then nothing really concrete, nothing really advanced, and so all parties decided not to proceed. But Ugarte in the summer could assess options and leave eventually Manchester United.”

What do United need in a midfielder?

Many thought Ugarte would be the catalyst for United to spring into action, breaking up opposition attacks and transitioning from defence to attack.

From his days at Sporting CP under former United boss Ruben Amorim, Ugarte shone at his aggressive pressing nature retaining possession and United need to find the correct profile for this if they have any hopes of challenging for titles.

Whilst Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes excel with their ability on the ball, Casemiro’s reading of the game and defensive contributions will be difficult to replace, but the sale of Ugarte would free up some financial movement to bring in the ideal players.

Meanwhile, United remain focused on securing their place in the Champions League as the journey up to St James’ Park awaits on Wednesday, where a difficult Newcastle side will look to end Carrick’s unbeaten run.
