Manchester United could look to pounce on West Ham stars should the London side be relegated.
West Ham were on the receiving end of a 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool last weekend in the latest blow to the London outfit’s hope of Premier League survival.
There have been signs of improvement under Nuno Espirito Santo since the turn of the calendar year but points picked up here and there have not lifted the Hammers out of the drop zone. West Ham remain in 18th, two points off Nottingham Forest.
Focus at the London Stadium remains fixed on the 10 matches that remain to played in the Premier League but the consequences of possible relegation will be looming in the back of supporters’ minds.
One of those consequences could be the need to sell key first team players ahead of a Championship campaign. One Premier League rival said to be eyeing that possibility is Manchester United.
Manchester United linked with double £95m West Ham swoop
TeamTALK reports that the Red Devils could swoop for two West Ham players in a staggering £94.5 million double deal. Manchester United have been revitalised under Michael Carrick and, although it remains to be seen who is in the dugout next term, Champions League football is starting to look likely.
That could prove a tempting option for Jarrod Bowen and Mateus Fernandes, who are the two players said to be admired by Manchester United. TeamTALK last week claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were interested in a potential move for Bowen, with West Ham supposedly willing to let the star leave for £53 million should relegation be confirmed.
Bowen has made 268 appearances for the Hammers since joining from Hull City in 2020, scoring 82 goals. He has become Mr. Reliable for West Ham and, despite his form, has never appeared close to an exit.
The outlet now cites sources that claim that Bowen is ‘very open’ to a departure given the club’s struggles this term. Meanwhile, Fernandes was only signed from Southampton last summer for £42 million, but could be allowed a quick exit if funds must be freed up.
Manchester United are expected to rebuild their midfield this summer and had been credited with interest in Fernandes in January. The midfielder has made 26 appearances across all competitions for the Hammers with three goals and three assists.
