Michael Carrick issues hint on Bruno Fernandes’Man Utd future amid‘one more year’claim

Michael Carrick has issued a hint on Bruno Fernandes’ future, with the Manchester United captain set to continue at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have been flying since the appointment of interim manager Michael Carrick, and have achieved 19 points from a possible 21 in the Premier League.

This recent unbeaten run has left the Reds sitting third in the league table, having now climbed above Aston Villa, who sat 11 points above United at the time of Ruben Amorim’s sacking.

A massive part of this resurgence for Carrick’s side has been his captain, Bruno Fernandes, whose goal and assist against Crystal Palace helped to see out a 2-1 victory.

Fernandes, who once seemed likely to leave the Reds in the summer, has been in fine form this season, accumulating seven goals and 13 assists in 25 league fixtures.

Carrick on Fernandes

Speaking ahead of a tough trip to Newcastle, Carrick has spoken about his captain’s future, stating that he expects the Portuguese maestro to ‘continue’ at Old Trafford.

Carrick said, via a post on X, “There’s not much more I can add on Bruno. He’s been here for such a long period of time now and had success in different ways, and individually, he’s shown what he’s all about.

“It sums up his character with his consistency over such a period of time. In terms of where he ranks in club history, that’s not for me to get involved in.

“He’s been a major plus and a fantastic signing for the impact he’s had. I’m sure that’ll continue.”

Fernandes opting to stay

During the early stages of the summer transfer window, Fernandes deterred serious interest from the Saudi Pro League, with Al-Hilal reportedly offering him a very lucrative salary.

Despite turning down their offers, it is expected that the Saudi top-flight sides will return in an attempt to lure the United captain this summer, as reported by The Peoples Person.

The 31-year-old midfielder is expected to stay at the Reds, however, with Fernandes set to sit down with INEOS at the end of the season to discuss his future at the club.

If the Red Devils are to achieve their aim of returning to the top tier of European Football, then it will be incredibly important that they keep their captain, who has been pivotal to any success that United have achieved since his arrival.
