Man Utd plan a squad refresh at the end of the season ahead of a potential return to the Champions League.

United have prioritised midfield additions at the end of the season, with two arrivals expected in central positions. It is understood United could even break their club-record transfer fee to sign an elite option such as Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson. The current record remains the £89 million spent to bring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford a decade ago.

Manchester World previously revealed United are also in the market for a versatile forward who can play on the left wing, while they are also expected to strengthen at full-back. RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is one player of interest, while the club have also kept tabs on Everton ace Iliman Ndiaye.

United could sign a left winger this summer

Manchester United don't have a natural left winger on their books, which has been somewhat of a problem since their change of formation under Michael Carrick. Patrick Dorgu enjoyed success there under the new head coach before injury, while Matheus Cunha and Amad Diallo are both considered options there, despite neither being natural in that position.

Carrick insists he is happy with the options already at his disposal, though he admits it is a position they will look at ahead of the summer window. "I think you're always looking at the balance of the team and the squad to give you the utmost flexibility, so it's definitely something to look at for sure," Carrick told reporters.

"I think Matheus can play that at times. Amad can do that at times, he came on against West Ham and played off the left. There are different ways of doing it. I think we've got really good options across the front line and we can change things in games, and we have done quite a lot, actually. Sometimes smaller things, sometimes bigger things, certainly Matheus, when he plays wide 1v1, he's tough to stop.

When further pushed on the need to strengthen the left flank, Carrick added: "I think we can still be dangerous, and I still think we can fill that spot. I think we've got players to be able to do it. It's not a huge concern at the moment. We always want to improve, and we're always thinking of that perfect scenario of mixing players together and connections and how it suits on the pitch, but Matheus has played that role and caused some problems and caused big problems and had big moments from that playing wide or inside, so he's doing well as well."
