Michael Carrick asked about four injury updates for key Man Utd players ahead of the Newcastle match

Michael Carrick has opened up on Mason Mount, Lisandro Martinez, Patrick Dorgu and Matthijs de Ligt amid all four Manchester United players being sidelined ahead of the Newcastle match.

Mason Mount has only featured once under Michael Carrick and the 27-year-old former Chelsea ace has been sidelined for the Red Devils since January.

The former England international made a brief cameo in Carrick’s first match as interim head coach, with Manchester United defeating Manchester City 2-0.

Ex-Blues star Mount suffered a knock in January and has been absent from the squad for the last five Premier League matches under United legend Carrick.

Michael Carrick rules out Mason Mount, Patrick Dorgu and Matthijs de Ligt from Man Utd’s Premier League clash against Newcastle

Joining Manchester United No 7 Mason Mount on the sidelines is Patrick Dorgu, who is out of action with a hamstring injury, and long-term absentee Matthijs de Ligt.

Dorgu had been a key attacking threat under Michael Carrick before the 21-year-old Danish wing-back suffered his injury setback in United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal.

De Ligt, on the other hand, has not featured once under Carrick and the 26-year-old Dutch centre-back has missed United’s last 16 matches due to a back injury.

Speaking to MUTV, Man Utd interim boss Carrick confirmed that Mount, Dorgu and De Ligt would all be absent for Wednesday evening’s encounter with Newcastle.

“We’ve got one or two we’re trying to work to get them back – Mason as well, he’s getting a bit closer, so unfortunately it’s part of the game,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“There’s always going to be people out, there’s always going to be people missing, but we’ll keep working as hard as we can to get them back.”

Michael Carrick confirms that Lisandro Martinez will not feature for Man Utd in the Newcastle match on Wednesday

Lisandro Martinez has been sidelined for Man Utd’s last three Premier League matches with a calf injury after being a key Red Devils defensive pick for Carrick.

Carrick started Martinez in his first five Premier League matches in charge and the 28-year-old Argentine centre-back completed the full 90 minutes on each occasion.

When asked about any updates on the 2022 World Cup winner, Carrick responded: “Not particularly, really, no. He won’t be with us. He’s not quite ready for that.”

United will now visit St James’ Park on Wednesday evening and the Red Devils will face Newcastle in an 8:15pm Premier League kick-off time in the UK.
