Harry Maguire hoped to clear his name
Harry Maguire's assault and bribery conviction has been upheld six years after he was arrested in Greece. The Manchester United star has been handed a 15-month suspended sentence after a guilty verdict by the Greek Courts.
Maguire, 32, was charged with non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery for an incident in Mykonos in August 2020. The England international has been found guilty on all three counts.
Maguire's legal team had been fighting to clear his name for the best part of six years. The defender didn't appear in court, as he's preparing for United's clash with Newcastle on Wednesday.
The judges reduced his original sentence of 21 months to 15 and 20 days. Maguire has also been slapped with a fine worth €1,500 (£1,304).
Maguire's brother, Joe, was acquitted of attempted bribery. However, the appeals court upheld charges of aggravated assault and verbal abuse of the police.
