How Julian Nagelsmann now feels about managing Man Utd after Michael Carrick's incredible start

Julian Nagelsmann is interested in taking the Manchester United job at the end of the season, even though Michael Carrick is making a strong case for the position.

Manchester United parted ways with Ruben Amorim in January, two weeks before hiring Michael Carrick as head coach until the end of the season.

Since then, United have won six matches and drawn one to emerge as a strong contender for the Champions League qualification spots.

Louis Saha believes Carrick deserves the job for turning things around at Old Trafford, while Wayne Rooney has hailed his simplistic approach to management.

Julian Nagelsmann keen on Man Utd job

Carrick has hardly put a foot wrong since returning to United at the start of the year.

If United continue to win matches for the remainder of the season, it will be difficult for Ineos to hire anyone but Carrick, but there’s still a lot of football to play this season.

According to TEAMtalk, Germany national team manager Julian Nagelsmann is shown interest in taking the United head coach role after the World Cup.

Intermediaries have put Nagelsmann in the mix for the top job at Old Trafford as the race heats up.

The report states that United are not prepared yet to give Carrick the job and want to do its due diligence on a range of other options.

It is understood that United are wary of not making a decision that is influenced heavily by emotions. They want to ensure that their next decision is the right one.

In addition to the claims about Naglesmann, the report suggests that Niko Kovac has also shown interest in the job.

There is a belief within Old Trafford that United will opt for a coach who has experience in English football, which bodes well for Carrick rather than Nagelsmann and Kovac.

A source told TEAMtalk: “They’re open-minded but unlikely to go for anyone without top-flight English experience, but they are assessing all options.”

The German coach has a record of one win and one loss against the Red Devils, including a crushing defeat and a revenge mission.

Nagelsmann’s only game at Old Trafford ended in a 5-0 defeat, with Marcus Rashford coming off the bench to score an 18-minute hat-trick.

In the final group game, the winner progressed into the knockouts while the loser had to settle for a place in the Europa League.

United lost the game 3-2 as Leipzig learned from previous mistakes.
