One of the big tasks for [Manchester United](https://manunews.com/) this summer transfer window is to keep ahold of captain Bruno Fernandes, who has remained highly useful to the Red Devils with a whopping 20 goal contributions this season as a legitimate Premier League Player of the Season candidate.
Saudi Pro League clubs have been dreaming of stealing Fernandes away for a while, but with Man United suddenly thriving under Michael Carrick, there is optimism that the Portuguese international will stay at Old Trafford.
According to a new report from _The Mirror,_ Man United are ready to offer Fernandes an improved contract to entice him to stay, paying him a whopping 400,000 pounds per week.
Fernandes is currently the team’s second highest paid player at 300,000 pounds per week or 15 million pounds per season, so the new contract would take him up to the highest paid player at 20 million pounds per season. The team’s current highest, Casemiro, makes about 18 million pounds per season but is expected to leave this summer.
Per _The Mirror_, the catch is that Fernandes is not motivated by money first and foremost. While money is obviously nice, sporting interests are No. 1 for Bruno, and he wants the Red Devils to qualify for the Champions League.
So consider his status in limbo, But if Fernandes prioritizes the Champions League over money, that should make Man United think more about losing him to a potential European rival this summer rather than the Saudi Pro League.
