Tyler Adams is cheaper than Elliot Anderson, but Man Utd can't take shortcuts with midfield revamp

Manchester United are keeping an eye on Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams as the club prepares for a midfield revamp in the summer.

It’s shaping up to be a big summer for Manchester United, with the club expected to sign new players as well as make a permanent decision over the head coach position.

Champions League qualification could lead to a greater transfer budget, but United’s decision not to spend any money in January could come as another boost.

Casemiro announcing his departure ahead of the end of the season means United will be in the market for a replacement, but I’d argue that more than one midfield addition is required to take the team to the next level.

Tyler Adams is not the solution for Man Utd

The search for Casemiro’s replacement is ongoing.

United have been linked with an array of midfield options, including Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, and Sandro Tonali.

All four of those players would command a huge fee, but that shouldn’t be too much of an issue as United plan to prioritise the midfield department in the summer.

A new report from the Daily Mail claims United will continue to monitor Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams after the US international returned from a serious injury sustained at Old Trafford in December.

It is understood that Adams has a valuation worth around £40 million, which is likely half the cost of a player like Nottingham Forest’s Anderson, but that is because he is half the player.

The 27-year-old may be one of the best players at Bournemouth, having proven himself at RB Leipzig and Leeds, but stepping in as Casemiro’s replacement will be a huge ask for any player.

Is Adams among the best options out there? Truthfully, he’s far from it, and United cannot afford to take any shortcuts in midfield.

That’s not to say I don’t believe Adams would be a good addition as an extra option in midfield, but United need top quality in the middle of the pitch.

After all, at least two additions are required if United are serious about giving the midfield a much-needed revamp.

Which Newcastle player would you want Manchester United to sign the most?💰

United have been linked with Tonali, Gordon, Thiaw, Hall and Guimarães. But which makes most sense?

Tyler Adams dreams of nights playing at Old Trafford

Adams recently returned from injury to feature in Bournemouth’s games against West Ham, Sunderland and Brentford.

He featured on the Men in Blazers podcast and revealed that his injury was far from ideal because he was looking to impress at Old Trafford before being forced off five minutes in the match.

Adams twisted his knee trying to block a shot from Matheus Cunha.

“I’m in a good spot,” Adams said.

“There was a longer timetable on the injury when it first happened, but I’ve come back a little earlier.

“It wasn’t ideal. You dream of nights playing at Old Trafford against Man United. Those are the biggest games you can play in the Premier League, and something like that happens.

“I knew in the moment that my MCL twisted and I felt a bit of a pop. I don’t think I’ve ever come off a field in the first half.”
