Below is a summary of everything we know about Harry Maguire's conviction in Greece, which he is set to appeal...

Harry Maguire has seen his assault and bribery conviction upheld six years after he was arrested in Greece. The 32-year-old had been handed a 15-month suspended sentence after a guilty verdict by the Greek Courts.

Maguire was charged with non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery for an incident in Mykonos. He has been found guilty on all three counts over the incident in August 2020, but his legal team are planning to appeal the verdict.

His original sentence of 21 months has been reduced to 15 and 20 days by judges. The former Leicester City player has also been hit with a fine worth €1,500 (£1,304).

The footballer's brother, Joe, was acquitted of attempted bribery. However, the court upheld charges of aggravated assault and verbal abuse of the police.

The incident happened when Maguire was enjoying a night out with his wife, Fern, sister Daisy, brother Joe and five others. It is claimed the group were waiting for a taxi to take them back to their villa when two Albanian men approached Daisy and tried to talk to her.

Maguire claimed that the men injected Daisy with an unknown substance, and she began drifting in and out of consciousness. The United player said that he attempted to get her to a hospital but was instead taken to a police station. He is alleged to have been beaten on the legs by uniformed men who told him that his football career was over.

It is then claimed that Maguire tried to flee after fear of being caught up in a kidnap plot, before he was apprehended and spent two nights in custody. Maguire was later found guilty of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and attempted bribery, having been accused of telling the officers: "Do you know who I am?"

Sources close to the player said there were no travel restrictions on Maguire, which means as things stand he would be eligible to be part of England’s World Cup squad this summer.

Maguire is out of contract at the end of the season. Talks over a new deal are ongoing.
