Paul Scholes appeared to hit out at Michael Carrick after Manchester United's away loss to ten-man Newcastle United. Carrick, 44, has been close to faultless ever since he took over from Ruben Amorim at the start of the year.

However, he fell to his first loss as United interim boss at St. James' Park. He looked set to wrap up another victory when Newcastle midfielder Jacob Ramsey was controversially sent off on the stroke of half time by Peter Bankes.

The ex-Aston Villa ace was judged to have dived by the referee, who have him a second booking having already given him a yellow card earlier in the game. Anthony Gordon gave Eddie Howe's side the lead moments after, only for Casemiro to head home Bruno Fernandes' free-kick just before half time.

Many would have expected the Red Devils to wrap up another victory in the second half. However, as the match entered its final minutes, William Osula cut inside and curled in a dramatic winner to secure a stunning victory for the Magpies.

After a disappointing loss, a furious Scholes hit out at the United players and, seemingly, at Carrick on social media. On his Instagram story, he wrote: "Michael has definitely got something special about him...cos Utd have been c*** last four games...night."

He also expressed some admiration for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, by writing the Italian's surname alongside a love heart emoji on his post. Considering United had one more player for more than half of the match, the defeat to Newcastle will be seen as a huge three points dropped.

The biggest positive for United this week is that the teams around them also dropped points. Liverpool were beaten by rock-bottom Wolverhampton Wanderers on March 3 while Aston Villa, who are level on points with United, were defeated 4-1 at home by Chelsea.
