Paul Scholes knows Man Utd just watched their Casemiro replacement vs Newcastle

Casemiro’s goal for Manchester United against Newcastle emphasised just how difficult it will be to replace him in the summer.

In Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United, Casemiro scored his sixth goal of the Premier League season and things fell apart when the Brazilian was taken off.

Casemiro confirmed he is leaving at the end of the season when his contract expires, so it is a top priority for Ineos to source a replacement in the summer transfer window.

United have shown interest in Sandro Tonali, and the Italian midfielder unfortunately put on a brilliant showing at St James’ Park on Wednesday evening.

What are your thoughts on Manchester United’s supposed interest in Sandro Tonali?

Where should he rank in comparison to other central midfield targets?

Paul Scholes is a big admirer of Man Utd target Sandro Tonali

Few know better about what makes a good midfielder than United legend Paul Scholes, and the Red Devils legend has a soft spot for Tonali.

In an episode of The Overlap, Scholes once claimed that Tonali is better than Declan Rice while speaking about who is the best midfielder in the Premier League.

During the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle, Scholes again showed his admiration for Tonali via an Instagram story post.

Scholes wrote Tonali’s name next to a heart emoji after criticising the performance of Michael Carrick’s side.

Tonali wants to join a Champions League club and United are still in a favourable position to return to the prestigious European competition next season.

Which Newcastle player would you want Manchester United to sign the most?💰

United have been linked with Tonali, Gordon, Thiaw, Hall and Guimarães. But which makes most sense?

Man Utd are being told to sign Sandro Tonali

Tonali is expected to cost £100m this summer, but his performance against United is first-hand proof that he would be an upgrade in midfield and a perfect replacement for Casemiro.

Interestingly, Scholes is not the only one pushing to see Tonali at Old Trafford. After the Newcastle match, the father of United academy star JJ Gabriel also urged the Red Devils to sign the Italian.

Via X, Gabriel’s father wrote: “Man Utd please sign Tonali before anyone else does, he is so good man I’m gonna have a word with JJ see if we can convince him.”

The post was accompanied with a photo of Gabriel posing with Tonali.
