'My understanding...' - Fabrizio Romano says Man Utd eyeing £87m winger after Carrick transfer…

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick celebrates after the match

Manchester United are closely monitoring RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande ahead of the summer transfer window, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Old Trafford side are expected to be on the lookout for a new wide forward when the market reopens after the season and have identified the Ivory Coast international as a potential target.

United have sent scouts to watch Diomande several times already this season and are likely to track his progress further before deciding on a summer swoop.

Diomande only joined Leipzig last summer from Spanish side Leganes, penning a long-term contract until June 2030.

Man Utd Keeping Tabs on Yan Diomande

Yan Diomande

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that United are looking at several left-wingers ahead of the summer, including Diomande amid his promising first season at Leipzig:

“Yan Diomande is doing fantastic at Leipzig and my understanding is that Manchester United, already in January, sent their scouts several times to follow Yan Diomande.

“So, he will be one of the players being monitored again for sure and let's see if there is going to be more.

“So, Man United are looking at left wingers, and I'm sure there will be movement on this in the next months, waiting to understand who's going to be the manager.”

Diomande has been in superb form at Leipzig this term, scoring nine goals and providing six assists in 23 Bundesliga appearances.

The 20-year-old has established himself as one of the most exciting young forwards in Europe and has no shortage of admirers across the continent, with Bayern Munich among the clubs monitoring him.

Leipzig, who sold the likes of Xavi Simons, Benjamin Sesko and Mohamed Simakan before the season, are not expected to easily give up their prized asset this time around.

The German club are believed to have placed a valuation of €100m (£87m) on Diomande, which would make him the club’s most expensive sale ever.

Manchester United interim boss Michael Carrick has recently dropped a huge hint over United’s transfer plans for the summer, revealing the club are likely to explore the market for a new left winger.

United have been lacking a natural wide operator on the left since moving to a 4-2-3-1 formation and losing Patrick Dorgu to injury.

Matheus Cunha has been trusted by Carrick in the Dane’s absence, starting United’s last three league games on the left flank.

Why Top Clubs are After Diomande

Yan Diomande

Amid United’s reported interest in Diomande, we asked ChatGPT why top clubs are lining up for the exciting 20-year-old winger ahead of the summer:

Breakout Bundesliga performer – At just 19, he’s already scoring and assisting regularly for RB Leipzig, combining direct pace and goal threat from wide areas.

Elite physical and technical traits – Diomande’s acceleration, dribbling, and one‑on‑one ability make him hard to defend against, offering the kind of dynamic wide play that top clubs value in attacking transitions.

Huge potential with resale value – Still young with room to grow, he’s viewed as a long‑term investment who can develop into a top forward, which is why multiple Premier League and European giants are tracking him and Leipzig are pricing him near elite‑level fees.
