Pellegatti: Casemiro ‘wants to play with Modric’ – how Milan could overcome wage obstacle

In the past couple of weeks there has been talk of Casemiro joining AC Milan, and Carlo Pellegatti is not ruling it out.

Casemiro’s contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the season, and at present nothing has leaked out to suggest that he is close to extending. So, the experienced midfielder would be available on a free transfer as things stand.

Reports in recent days have suggested that Milan are keen on the Brazilian, having seen a big return from their two veteran midfield signings in the summer, Adrien Rabiot and Casemiro’s former Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric.

Pellegatti: Casemiro deal ‘can be done’

Matteo Moretto recently downplayed the idea that the Rossoneri are targeting Casemiro. On his YouTube channel (via MilanNews), Carlo Pellegatti spoke about the 34-year-old and he suggested that it is far from impossible.

“There have already been denials about Casemiro, not from the club but from colleagues very close to the club. No, it’s out of the question… However, I continue to say that Casemiro wants to play with Modric in the final years of his European career,” he said.

“He wants to play in the Champions League, and so I still believe that if Casemiro were to contact Modric and Modric were to contact Allegri or Tare, the possibility exists. Clearly, his salary is very high. It should fall to the level of our top players, there’s no doubt about that.

“But, having already earned €36m in the last three years, I truly believe he could also be offered lower salaries, closer to the levels that Milan rightly maintain. I remain hopeful. I’m not interested in superficial denials, because if Allegri and Tare push ahead with Modric, this deal can be done, as happened with Rabiot.”
