Late in January, Aston Villa sealed an intial loan move for Juventus’ Douglas Luiz. Sport Witness covered the transfer closely, as the midfielder’s stay at Nottingham Forest was cut short.
Chelsea were also interested in the Brazilian, who had struggled with injuries during his time at the City Ground. The decision to return to Villa Park is paying off, with Douglas Luiz replicating his best form.
Since joining, the Juventus loanee has started every Premier League game for Aston Villa. He also scored against the Blues in the heavy 4-1 defeat on Wednesday.
Now, plans are being made in Turin for the Brazil international’s future.
Douglas Luiz’s future lies in England
IlBianconero report that Juve are desperate to see the midfielder join Aston Villa on a permanent deal.
Unai Emery’s side have an option to buy him permanently for €25m, having already paid a loan fee of €3.5m. As there is no obligation to buy, the Bianconeri are not taking anything for granted.
They are certain they will not keep the player in Turin next season. Even if he returns from Aston Villa, they will move him on again. His time at Juventus was a failure, especially given the money that was spent on him.
As a result, Juve are assessing openings in the Premier League. They are hoping Douglas Luiz keeps impressing in Birmingham. This will make sure that even if he doesn’t stay at Villa Park, other English clubs will certainly come forward for him.
Things back on track for Douglas Luiz
The Brazilian’s regular game time is coming in the absence of Boubacar Kamara, as the Frenchman is out due to a knee injury. That is why the Juventus player was signed in the first place.
It would be interesting to see what happens when Kamara returns because it could reduce Douglas Luiz’s game time. On top of that, the option to buy isn’t cheap by any means and would require some convincing at Aston Villa.
