Manchester United players hung their heads in shame after losing to Newcastle United but fine margins decided the match at St James’ Park.
After the full-time whistle, Michael Carrick said Manchester United deserved to lose 2-1 to Newcastle United in the Premier League.
A late goal from William Osula stole all three points for Eddie Howe’s side, just as United were pushing to try and find a winner of their own against 10-man Newcastle.

Leny Yoro missed golden opportunity to complete Man Utd comeback
Under Carrick, United have produced several late goals that have earned valuable points in the Premier League. A similar storyline looked to be unfolding at St James’ Park until Osula scored against the run of play.
In the 75th minute against Newcastle, Leny Yoro had the chance to score his first goal ever in the Premier League when he connected with a pinpoint Bruno Fernandes cross.

Yoro had a free header which was brilliantly saved by Newcastle shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale, who ended the match with four saves to his name.
Via Sky Sports, Clinton Morrison said: “Yoro should score, it’s a free header. Great save from Ramsdale. Fernandes again with the delivery.”
It’s hard to argue with Morrison that Yoro should have scored, but the French defender hardly put a foot wrong other than that one moment.

Man Utd bubble bursts but fans shouldn’t be too negative
The unbeaten run in 2026 has come crashing to a halt and Carrick is being criticised for decisions made in the defeat to Newcastle.
But had that Yoro header flown past Ramsdale, there is a good chance that United would be looking at 12 games unbeaten and talk of United in the Premier League title race would continue.

Fine margins decided the game at Newcastle, and while United were poor in their performance, negativity around the result will only sap confidence from the squad.
Up next is a crucial clash for Champions League qualification against Aston Villa. Carrick and his players have a golden opportunity to bounce back and protect United’s third-place in the Premier League table.
