On Wednesday afternoon, Manchester United’s U18 side beat West Ham 3-1 to progress into the final of the Premier League Cup.
It was a closely fought clash, with extra time needed to settle the tie. But in the second half of extra time, United raised the levels, and West Ham couldn’t cope.
Junior Brown scored first with a brilliant left-footed strike, before Kai Rooney put it beyond doubt, making it 3-1 with a wonderful bit of play.

Kai Rooney goal was straight off the training ground
Each of Rooney’s goals at an U18 level has been impressive for different reasons. For the first goal earlier this season, Rooney demonstrated great in-box ability to find space, control, and finish.
But against West Ham, he demonstrated something even better.
When the ball was played to Rooney, he one-touch laid it back to Jay McEvoy with a defender tight to him. From here, Rooney spun and then sped in through the gap in the defence he helped create before finishing really well.
This is straight from the training ground, as Jaydan Kamason pointed out in the comments, as he wrote: “Set, spin, go”, which is the exact movement Rooney did to score.
To show the strength and intelligence to do this at his age is impressive. Now Rooney will be desperate to earn a spot in the Youth Cup squad.
