It’s news that will come as a blow to city rivals Manchester United, who have also identified the Borussia Dortmund midfielder as a summer target.
The 25-year-old has racked up eight goal contributions (five goals and three assists) in 37 games (across all competitions) for BVB this term.
Manchester City could sign Felix Nmecha
In positive news for FC Bayern, a successful swoop for Nmecha would then likely rule out a subsequent move for one of the Bavarians’ ideal targets in Kennet Eichhorn.
“He’s a player that Pep Guardiola at Manchester City would also love to have and develop. But these clubs also need players who are further along in their development, like Felix Nmecha,” Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.
“I heard that Nmecha is really concrete as far as a move to Man City is concerned. Dortmund want to give the 25-year-old a new contract, but Manchester City are now in talks.
“If they can sign this player, then how do they also fit Eichhorn into the squad? So, you see, it’s difficult, and both are really interesting players.”
Of course, that doesn’t completely rule out competing interest in the 16-year-old Hertha talent from elsewhere in the Premier League.
But at the very least, it does boost the midfielder’s chances of staying put in Germany.
The important outcome for Bayern – in terms of eventually ensuring Eichhorn files out in Bayern red – is the footballer staying put in Germany (either by signing for the reigning champions or another Bundesliga outfit).
Blow for Manchester United?
We’re aware here at CF Bayern Insider that Manchester United are planning a significant overhaul of their midfield. Partly due to factors like Casemiro’s impending departure, not to mention Manuel Ugarte’s struggles in English football.
With the Red Devils’ midfield looking an obvious weak point at this point in time, it’s unsurprising that club chiefs have been impressed with Nmecha in the Bundesliga.
BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl described the German as a “fast, technically adept and physically strong player who will enhance our midfield both offensively and defensively”.
All characteristics one would dare say are specifically suited to the demands of Premier League football.
Whilst traditionally Manchester City’s interest in the player would signal the end of the transfer battle before it’s begun, a recent resurgence under Michael Carrick may shift the tide.
Especially if United can confirm Champions League football for the 2026/27 campaign.
