Manchester United legend Patrice Evra took a cheeky dig at Paul Scholes after the former midfielder attacked Red Devils head coach Michael Carrick. He believes that the negativity from the former England star is annoying, adding that it is the same as that of Gary Neville and Roy Keane.
Carrick has done a phenomenal job at Manchester United and moved to third in the Premier League table, losing just once in his eight Premier League matches and drawing once.
However, Scholes has not been in favor of giving the Englishman the job next season, and took a dig as soon as the Red Devils lost 2-1 to Newcastle United this week. He posted:
"Michael has definitely got something special about him, [because] United have been crap last four games... night"
Evra has now hit back at Scholes, questioning the lack of support for the manager. He claimed that pundits are forcing the negativity to remain on TV and told Stake:
"I hope Paul Scholes' Instagram story is fake, I hope he was hacked. To be honest, I'm not surprised at that from Scholesy. He was the quietest player I've ever played with in my entire career. Now, in the media, he drops bombshells. I really don't understand the lack of support behind Michael Carrick; he's one of us and he's doing very well."
"There's been negative analysis from Scholesy, but also from Roy Keane and Gary Neville. It annoys me because we want to be in the top four, and those comments are unnecessary. But this is what you do when you work in TV. You can't be positive; you have to be negative. People can't forget what they have done as a manager. As players, they're legends, but as managers, they haven't done a great job."
Evra hit out at Neville as well, revealing that he had a conversation with the former Manchester United defender. He reminded the Englishman that he had failed as a manager with Valencia and should know the difficulties of the job.
Paul Scholes questions if Michael Carrick has what it takes to be Manchester United coach
Paul Scholes was on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast earlier this month, saying that he does not think Michael Carrick is good enough to be the manager to help Manchester United win the league. He said:
"Michael Carrick is doing great, it’s unbelievable the change. The question is, has Michael got the experience? 'I know it's a big question, I know he has managed in the Championship, but this is different. Can we see Michael winning the Premier League? I don't know yet, and I think the biggest thing is, what type of manager will they look for? A tactician or a man manager who looks after people?"
Scholes wants Manchester United to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as the manager next season.
