Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is unlikely to be surprised by Benjamin Sesko's fine recent form. The summer signing took a while to get going at Old Trafford but has scored six goals in his last eight games to help lift United into the top four.
Slovenia star Sesko joined from RB Leipzig as part of a £200m spree which also brought Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens to Old Trafford. However, he was eased into things by Ruben Amorim before only showing his best form after the Portuguese coach was sacked and interim boss Michael Carrick took charge.
The 22-year-old took six league games to get off the mark but now averages a goal for every 162.5 minutes on the pitch. Fernandes spoke about his new team-mate in October, suggesting Sesko was still learning the ropes but backing him to deliver sooner rather than later.
"Ben is very eager to learn and that's very good from someone that has done very well in the Bundesliga and everything, came with the biggest, probably like the price tag and everything," the skipper said. "But in his mind, he's like, I want to learn, I want to become better.

"Then on the weekends, he transforms himself into a different person on the pitch. He's someone that is like, ‘I know what I have to do. I want to score goals. I'm going to get into the box, I'm going to get into duels. I'm going to win my headers’. And that's very important for us."
Sesko's recent run of goals began against Burnley on January 7, the only league game with Darren Fletcher in caretaker charge before Carrick's appointment. He also netted in Fletcher's other game in the dugout, a 2-1 FA Cup defeat at home to Brighton.
The striker was left on the bench for Carrick's first game, a win against Manchester City, before coming on as a substitute in each of the next five games. He scored in three of those cameos - against Fulham, West Ham and Everton - before starting and scoring in the home win over Crystal Palace.

Sesko drew a blank in the defeat to Newcastle but interim boss Carrick spoke before the game about how much he has been impressed by the recent form. "I think it’s pretty clear [his confidence], we’ve all seen it. He’s gradually building since he came to the club and over the season," Carrick told TNT Sports.
"That’s part of learning and developing and getting used to being around different environments. Confidence as a striker, scoring goals helps massively but his performances away from that and how he’s improving all the time is exactly what we’d hoped and what he hoped when he came to the club."
