‘Interesting duel unfolds’ as club eye Newcastle and Manchester City ‘transfer dreams’

Juventus could end up being forced to choose between Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva as they plan a midfield revamp this summer.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who cover both players today. The Italian outlet reports that ‘an interesting duel unfolds’ between the Newcastle and Manchester City stars.

According to their information, Silva and Tonali are ‘two transfer dreams’ for Juventus this summer. Sport Witness have covered various reports about their interest in both.

Yesterday, a report from Italy stated that the Manchester City star would be a signing that can ‘transform’ Juventus next season. That report explained his free agent status had him on the list for the summer.

Free agent Silva

Calciomercato back that up, stating that the path to Silva is ‘less steep’ than other. Manchester City are not negotiating a renewal with him and the Portuguese midfielder seems destined to be a free agent.

Securing Champions League football would be a bonus to their efforts. But it is not a prerequisite for signing the 31-year-old.

Tonali is seen as the ‘very complicated’ signing to be attempted. The feeling is that there will be plenty of competition if Newcastle open up to a sale this summer.

That tallies with other repots that Sport Witness have covered. For example, a report this week stated that Arsenal and Manchester United were also moving for the 25-year-old.

€100m for Tonali

The interesting caveat to all of this is Newcastle hosting Manchester City in the FA Cup today. that potentially provides Juventus with a chance to do some scouting.

Perhaps who comes out on top of the battle can help their own transfer cause. At this moment in time, it would appear Silva is the leading contender. That’s largely to do with money, though.

While he’s a free agent, Tonali is likely to cost close to €100m. Several reports have indicated that’s the price Newcastle want for him and even Transfermarkt have him valued at €75m.

That’s the highest he’s even been valued but given Newcastle spent €60m on him in 2023, and have him tied to a deal to 2028, they’ll surely demand far above that valuation.
