Now is the time for Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh to move on as Manchester United seemingly step up their interest.
That’s according to Malick Diop, president of the Mawade Wade Academy, speaking to Africa Foot. He previously had the 19-year-old centre-back as part of his academy.
Kinteh currently plays for Tromsø after joining them in March last year. He’s been impressing since, so much so that there is reportedly Premier League interest in him.
Reports in England have indicated as much, recently naming Chelsea and Manchester United among the suitors.
Manchester United efforts
In fact, one such report stated that Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada were planning on travelling to Norway to scout the young Tromsø IL talent.
Sport Witness then covered a report from Corriere dello Sport detailing Manchester United’s interest. That stated those in charge at Old Trafford planned a ‘blitz’ to beat competition to the youngster.
Now Diop has backed his former talent for a move, lavishing praise on the youngster in the process.
“He’s a very athletic lad who anticipates challenges,” he said.
“Being athletic is one thing but knowing how to anticipate challenges puts you at ease. These qualities inevitably make him a difficult defender to handle.
“It’s time for him to leave. There was already interest from clubs during the winter transfer window, but it wasn’t the ideal time for a young player, as there’s already an established squad and it’s not easy to break into the first team…
“However, the best time is the summer. He’ll have time to adapt and establish himself.”
Manchester United focus on youth
The interest in Kinteh certainly fits a new effort from Manchester United to focus on youngsters from around the world.
There have been several big signings in that regard, with Leny Yoro, Chido Obi-Martin and Diego León the most high-profile. Senne Lammens, at 23-years-old, could even fit into that category.
Now Kinteh appears to be on the list, and it seems his former academy director is convinced a move is coming at the right time.
