United are back shopping in Portugal with eyes on right-back Benfica youngster Daniel Banjaqui.

United are being kept informed of the situation around Banjaqui as his contract situation remains dubious.

Banjaqui turns 18 this month and has yet to commit his future to Benfica, which could see him leave for free in 2027.

This has sparked urgency to resolve his situation, trying to convince him to commit, but it is a lot more difficult with Europe’s elite circling.

Banjaqui is already a first-team debutant for Benfica, as Jose Mourinho handed him the opportunity, potentially to try and convince him to remain at the Portuguese side.

Who is Daniel Banjaqui?

Banjaqui is a 17-year-old full-back born in Lisbon and currently playing for Benfica.

The teenager is of Guinea-Bissau descent, but represents Portugal at the youth international level, with whom he has won the U17 World Cup, U17 European Championship, and the Torneio Internacional Algarve in 2025.

He is a right-footed right back with comparisons often being made to Nuno Mendes, who is a similar player despite being an opposite-sided full-back.

Banjaqui started his career with Real Formacao in Portugal before joining Benfica in 2018 as a nine-year-old.

Now, it seems his next move will be to one of Europe’s big boys. With his talent clear, considering Mourinho’s endorsement.
