Man United have reportedly drawn up a shortlist of possible replacements for exiled Marcus Rashford
Manchester United have reportedly drawn up a five-man shortlist to replace Marcus Rashford if the academy graduate departs permanently this summer.
Rashford has enjoyed a productive loan spell at Barcelona this season and the indication remains that the Catalan giants are likely to trigger a £26million option to sign the 28-year-old on a permanent basis at the end of the campaign. Rashford is said to feel at home in Barcelona and might need to take a considerable wage cut in order to get his way and extend his stay in Catalonia.
United’s shortlist to replace Rashford revealed
According to reports by The Express, United have compiled a shortlist of players to replace Rashford this summer, with five players emerging as possible targets for the Red Devils.
RB Leipzig’s 19-year-old winger Yan Diomande is thought to be on their radar amidst rival interest from the likes of Liverpool, while Como star Jesus Rodriguez has enjoyed a superb season with three goals and eight assists for Cesc Fabregas’ side and is also attracting interest from Old Trafford.
Strasbourg winger Martial Godo is also on United’s shortlist after 12 goals for the Ligue 1 side in his first season after joining from Fulham, where he made just six first-team appearances. Reporting continues that Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye is United’s top Premier League target amongst the quintet, citing his ‘one-on-one danger’ and experience in the division as key factors.
The most high-profile name thought to be on the Red Devils’ shortlist, though, is PSG star Bradley Barcola. The 23-year-old has bagged 10 Ligue 1 goals in just 15 starts this season and is reportedly a top target for the Red Devils – alongside team-mate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is not named amongst the shortlist but has been linked with United by recent reports.
Replacing Rashford might emerge as a top priority for the Red Devils this summer if the England international does depart for Spain on a permanent basis. The shortlist of targets named suggests a focus on youth, with a sprinkling of Premier League or trophy-winning experience where possible.
