Manchester United have now burst into the race to sign an "incredible" Premier League star, who Tottenham Hotspur have already made enquiries to sign.
Man Utd enter the picture to sign attacking midfielder
Man United will need to strengthen in the middle of the park this summer, given that Casemiro is set to leave at the end of his contract, and there are doubts over Manuel Ugarte's future, with Fabrizio Romano recently confirming there has been interest from elsewhere.
The transfer expert said: "Casemiro is leaving on a free, but around Ugarte, there is already some movement about some clubs interested. There are clubs in Italy considering the possibility to go for Ugarte, so there is interest from Italy.
"In the January window, Galatasaray were interested, but then nothing really concrete, nothing really advanced, and so all parties decided not to proceed. But Ugarte in the summer could assess options and leave eventually Manchester United."
As such, the Red Devils may have to bring in at least two new midfielders, and there are plenty of options on the shortlist, with Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes among the targets.

However, United are also keen to bring in a midfielder with more of an attacking focus, according to a report from TEAMtalk, which states they have now burst into the race to sign AFC Bournemouth star Marcus Tavernier.
Tottenham Hotspur are now fearing a hijack, having already made multiple enquiries about a deal for the attacking midfielder, while Newcastle United have also been showing strong interest ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils view Tavernier as a versatile option in attack, and some of his performances in the Premier League this season suggest he could be ready to make the step-up...

"Incredible" Tavernier may be ready for big move
Lauded as "incredible" by former AFC Bournemouth boss Gary O'Neil, the Englishman has displayed his versatility by playing in attacking midfield and on both wings this season, during which time he's amassed five goals and four assists in 25 Premier League outings.
No Bournemouth player has chipped in with more goal contributions this season, and the 26-year-old has the second-best FotMob rating in the squad at 7.12, which is higher than Ugarte, Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo.
The Bournemouth star's pace was also on display in his side's 1-1 draw against Brighton back in January, playing a major role in his side winning a penalty, which he subsequently converted.
Having proven himself in the Premier League, Tavernier could now be ready to make the step-up to one of the division's top clubs, but Bournemouth are in a strong negotiating position, given that he is under contract until 2029.
