Man United are reportedly in a transfer battle for a Premier League attacking star

Manchester United are compiling a series of transfer targets ahead of the summer as the Red Devils look to build on what is developing into a successful campaign under Michael Carrick.

The former United midfielder has led the club into the top three of the Premier League since arriving as head coach and with five Champions League spots set to be available to English sides next season, the Old Trafford outfit will fancy their chances of gaining a spot back at Europe’s top table.

This summer could be an important one in building on their strong progress, as the Red Devils ultimately hope to end their 13-year wait to be crowned champions of England in the near future. Midfield targets such as Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson have been touted while an attacking addition to replace Marcus Rashford could also be in the offing.

Man United join Marcus Tavernier transfer race amid hijack claims

According to reports by TEAMtalk, United have threatened to ‘hijack’ Newcastle’s move for Bournemouth winger Marcus Tavernier, who looks set to be in high demand this summer amidst Tottenham Hotspur links.

The Magpies are said to have shown a ‘strong interest’ in bringing their former youth product back to the club, while the Red Devils are thought to appreciate Tavernier’s versatile ability to shine both centrally and from wide areas.

The 26-year-old has been described as a ‘livewire’ for his performances this season and Bournemouth’s resolve could be tested this summer, as the Cherries continue their reputation as strong sellers. As such, reports from Mail Sport state that they could demand a fee of £40million for Tavernier – the ex-Middlesbrough man was signed for around £10m in 2022.

Aston Villa have also reportedly shown an interest in Tavernier, while West Ham are long-term admirers. Bournemouth are keen to hold onto the player this summer but might face a challenging task to do so if the likes of Man United and Newcastle arrive with big-money approaches for the Englishman.
