Report: Why Nottingham Forest selling star man for £43m makes no sense, Marinakis won't…

Manchester United are firmly on the up under Michael Carrick, but if they think they can land Ibrahim Sangare from Nottingham Forest for £43 million, they’re surely going to be in for a shock.

Sangare has been one of the top performers in the Forest team this season, and the Reds were pretty useless without him when the Ivory Coast were playing in the African Cup of Nations.

How would score Ibrahim Sangare for his form this season alone?

Let us know in the comments below…

The Ivorian checked in at Forest from PSV for a fee of £30 million, rising to £35 million in the summer of 2023, and in the last 12 months, he’s really started to prove his worth to the club.

Now, Sangare is attracting interest, but letting him go in the summer would make very little sense, and it’s unlikely that Evangelos Marinakis would sanction a deal. Here’s why…

Ibrahim Sangare could stay at Nottingham Forest

If Forest go down, Sangare will likely leave along with many other players, but Give Me Sport has suggested that United are hopeful even if relegation is survived.

The figure of £43 million is a complete non-starter as far as Forest are concerned, with a very small profit being made on the fee paid to PSV back in the summer of 2023.

United might have the Champions League to fall back on next season, but getting Sangare for that price is surely something that Marinakis won’t sanction, given the little amount of profit that Forest would be able to place on the PSR spreadsheet.

Furthermore, Forest are almost certainly going to sell Elliot Anderson for close to £100 million and that will take any pressure off the club needing to sell any other players, including Sangare.

With Morgan Gibbs-White and Murillo also being linked to other clubs, it just feels extremely nonsensical to think that Forest will let Sangare leave for as little as £43 million to a team that might be in the same league as the Reds.

Forest should offer Sangare a new contract

The first thing that Forest have to do once survival is secured is tie Sangare down to a new contract to truly indicate a statement of intent to keep him at the football club.

The Ivorian is playing the best football he’s ever played in England at the moment, and he’s integral to the way that Forest want to play on the counter under Vitor Pereira.

🤑How much would you consider selling Ibrahim Sangare for based on his form at the moment?

Sangare can’t be allowed to leave for United now, he’s playing well, and Marinakis will be completely aware of just how poor Forest have been this season when he’s not been on the pitch.

Signing a defensive midfielder who can play through the lines like Sangare will cost Forest far more than £43 million and the perfect situation for the club is for the player to receive an extended contract as soon as survival is confirmed.
