Man Utd captain in making: Red Devils ace is stepping out of his comfort zone to be Bruno Fernandes' heir apparent -…

Senne Lammens is slowly but surely positioning himself as a potential candidate for the Manchester United captaincy for whenever Bruno Fernandes leaves Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes is under contract with Manchester United until 2027 and the 31-year-old Red Devils skipper has been tipped to sign a new deal in the summer.

However, it remains unclear how long the Portuguese talisman will remain at Old Trafford for the long term ahead of turning 32 years old this September.

Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt would be viewed as potential successors to Fernandes’ captain’s armband, but the same could be said about Senne Lammens.

Senne Lammens is climbing out of his shell with his importance off the pitch for Man Utd — similar to Bruno Fernandes

Senne Lammens has impressed in his debut season at Old Trafford so far and the Belgium international is firmly Manchester United’s No 1 for the long term now.

The 23-year-old United ace has quickly adapted to the demands of the Premier League after spending the early part of his playing career in the Belgian Pro League.

Lammens’ presence has been felt between the sticks for the Red Devils, but he is equally showing his influence and importance off the field in other key roles.

The Belgium and Man Utd shot-stopper supported the Manchester United Foundation for World Book Day with a visit to primary school Partington Central Academy.

According to Manchester United’s official website, it was the ‘first community visit’ that Lammens has made since his arrival from Royal Antwerp last September.

The off-field activities that footballers take part in are not everyone’s cup of tea, including a reserved — and calm — Lammens, or second nature immediately.

As circulated on social media platforms after he signed in 2025, including on X, Lammens himself admitted that he was quite an ‘introverted’ character.

Senne Lammens is embracing his first Manchester United Foundation-backed visit in a real Bruno Fernandes way

Lammens’ personality — one of keeping to himself away from football — has been dated all the way back to his time at Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp.

It does not mean that the former Club Brugge shot-stopper is not a ‘team player,’ but his demeanour might not be reflective of his true personality on different stages.

Lammens’ openness to take part in activities outside of football — and out of his comfort zone — shows him taking on roles similar to what Bruno Fernandes does.

More importantly, the Belgium player is making sure that he is leaving a lasting impression, and in a way that any captain would be expected to do off the field.

A Man Utd-supporting pupil, Izzy, told the club’s media: “I was so happy and I’ve never seen a football player in person before, I couldn’t believe it!

“Senne was very kind to us and answered our questions really nicely. He also gave us some tips and I think I’ve learned a lot from him.”

Lammens might surprise a lot of United fans with his ‘positive introvert’ side, especially the longer he spends at the club and as he continues to step out of his comfort zone.
