Manchester United senior officials have a big decision over which direction they are going to go when deciding who their permanent manager next season will be.
They have been given a potential unexpected conundrum following the success of caretaker boss Michael Carrick, who was initially appointed until the end of the campaign.
The former Red Devil has fired the club up the table, and Man United will be one of the favourites to secure Champions League qualification for next season as they currently sit third in the table.
It is far from a guarantee though, with United also only three points ahead of sixth-placed Liverpool and the top five spots likely to be the only ones that secure a spot in Europe's elite club competition for 2026-27.
Carrick has done that by beating the current top two - Manchester City and Arsenal - in his opening two games in charge, before finally suffering defeat against Newcastle United last time out at the eighth attempt.
The World Cup could impact their decision, with managers like Carlo Ancelotti and Julian Nagelsmann potentially becoming available after the tournament.
Man Utd Targeting Julian Nagelsmann

While some reports recently have suggested that Manchester United want to appoint their next manager before the World Cup kicks off on June 11, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs says they are looking at two managers set to take part in the tournament.
One of those is Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann, who is viewed as one of the most exciting young managers in Europe, while there is also interest in Portugal's Roberto Martinez.
While the Spaniard hasn't managed in club football for 10 years after leaving Everton, Nagelsmann has only been away from club football for three years, having been sacked by Bayern Munich despite having won 60 of his 84 matches at the helm.
TEAMtalk claim that the 38-year-old wants to take over at Old Trafford, but they should be looking to appoint a different World Cup manager instead.
United Should Appoint Ancelotti After Bale Green Light
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti
Speaking on the Overlap podcast, former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale was asked about the Man United manager situation.
The Welshman threw his support behind Carlo Ancelotti, who will manage Brazil at this summer's World Cup, but is still yet to agree a deal to stay on despite reports it will be happening.
He said:
"I think Ancelotti would do an amazing job at Manchester United. Because he would get everyone on board. He would get the best out of every player. You need to simplify things, he is a genius at this."
While United may find it difficult to convince the Italian to turn his back on Brazil, they at least have to try and speak to him about their project.
Ancelotti has proven he is a born winner with 30 major trophies to his name as manager, including five Champions Leagues and numerous league titles across the major European leagues.
He might be 66 years of age, but he would deliver success for United tomorrow.
