Manchester United need to find a long-term replacement in midfield for Casemiro

Manchester United hold ‘serious interest’ in Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães, according to CaughtOffside. The Red Devils are said to be keen on landing the player this summer. They have the chance to freshen up their squad with some new faces in the next transfer window.

Michael Carrick’s side are positioned in 3rd place in the Premier League table. They find themselves in the top four with Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa. Next up for the North West giants is a clash against the latter this weekend at Old Trafford.

Manchester United keen on Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães

Newcastle star Guimarães would be an ideal addition for United. He would inject some more quality into their starting XI. In addition, he could fill the impending void that will be left by Casemiro’s exit at the end of the season.

Guimarães, 28, made the switch to England back in 2022. Prior to his move, he caught the eye playing in France for Lyon. He has since adapted well to life in the North East and the Toon Army could face a real battle to keep hold of him down the line amid expected attention from elsewhere.

The Brazil international, who has 41 caps to his name, is under contract with the Magpies until June 2028 meaning he still has two years left to run down. They are under no immediate pressure to cash in on him and his price tag is likely to be high. He has made 189 appearances in all competitions and has scored 31 goals.

What now for Bruno Guimarães at Newcastle United amid Manchester United talk?

Guimarães put pen-to-paper on a five-year extension back in 2023. At the time, he said: "I'm absolutely delighted. The fans have made me feel at home since my first day here and I feel so loved in my life.

"I'm so happy here. It's a place that is so comfortable to be and I hope to keep making the supporters happy and helping the team do well. That's my goal, because there are no words to describe how happy I am to be here.

"I remember in my first interview, I said I wanted to play for this club in the Champions League and now it's happening. We are doing so well and when I look around the pitch at my team-mates, I am so proud of them all. I'm proud of everyone; the team, the staff, the owners and the fans.”
