Lisandro Martinez set to miss Aston Villa clash as Man Utd try avoid repeat of Matthijs de Ligt situation

Lisandro Martinez is set to miss a fourth consecutive match due to a calf injury when Manchester United host Aston Villa.

Manchester United are looking for revenge when Aston Villa travel to Old Trafford on Sunday.

At Villa Park on December 21, Unai Emery’s side recorded a 2-1 win over United, with Matheus Cunha scoring the only goal for the Red Devils on the brink of half-time.

That was one of Ruben Amorim’s final games as United head coach. The Red Devils have been showing far better form since Michael Carrick returned as temporary head coach. United will be hoping to continue that by securing three points to remain third in the Premier League.

Lisandro Martinez suffers injury setback ahead of Aston Villa clash

Martinez sustained a calf injury in training after United’s 1-1 draw against West Ham last month.

At the time, Carrick suggested it was a minor injury and that Martinez was only expected to miss one or two games.

Martinez has already missed three matches, and Chris Wheeler from the Daily Mail reports that the World Cup winner is set to miss the next game against Villa.

Sources have told the newspaper that the problem isn’t deemed serious, but Martinez suffered a slight reaction in training, and it was decided to take a more cautious approach with his recovery to prevent the same problems they’ve had with getting Matthijs de Ligt back fit.

De Ligt has not played for United since the end of November when he sustained a back injury.

This means Leny Yoro is likely to start another game under Carrick.

Lisandro Martinez features in new Man Utd Barbershop series

The club released a new YouTube series on Tuesday called The Barbershop, which allows United fans to see the players engaging in conversations with the barber chosen to work at Carrington.

This was part of the facilities upgrade, which saw Carrington get a huge revamp last summer.

The hairdresser in question, Cal Newsome, is seen in episode 1 chatting with Martinez, Diogo Dalot and Manuel Ugarte.

Cal jokes about Martinez’s previous haircut, which prompted a response from the Argentine.

“I was injured, man!

Benjamin Sesko also features in the first episode, with the club nutritionist joking about his recent buzz cut.
