Eduardo Camavinga’s versatility would be a welcome addition at Manchester United if the talented French midfielder leaves Real Madrid in the summer.
Real Madrid star Eduardo Camavinga has been linked with a move to Manchester United since his teenage years, which means the Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the 23-year-old.
United wanted to sign Camavinga in 2021, having tracked his progress as a youngster at Rennes, but ended up spending £73 million on Jadon Sancho. It is understood that United ended their pursuit of Camavinga after learning that the youngster’s heart was set on Real Madrid before completing a £27.9million transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu.
While Camavinga has gone from strength to strength since joining Real Madrid, links over a move to United resurfaced following claims the La Liga giants are eyeing a move for a new central midfielder at the end of the season.

Eduardo Camavinga can play in midfield and left back
It’s no secret at this stage that United will be targeting midfielders as a priority in the summer, just like they did with attacking players last year.
Casemiro has announced his exit ahead of the end of the season, which means a defensive midfielder or two is likely to be at the top of United’s wish list.
United have been linked with an array of options, including Premier League duo Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson. Recent reports suggest Real Madrid duo Aurelien Tchouameni and Camavinga are also being monitored as potential Casemiro replacements.

There will be pros and cons with every player on the wish list, but focusing on Camavinga, there are multiple positives to look at.
Camavinga has an incredible wealth of experience at such a young age. Furthermore, his versatility could prove to be a major asset for United in the same way it has benefited Real Madrid.
Signing Camavinga would not only bolster United’s midfield, but he would also provide more depth at left back, having played there on numerous occasions for Real Madrid and France.
Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti first deployed Camavinga at left back during the 2022/23 season when Ferland Mendy was ruled out with injury.
Camavinga has played at left back 31 times for Real Madrid, including three times this season. That suggests that his transition to the role was born out of necessity due to injuries, but having performed so well, it remains a tactical option.
United fans will want the best defensive midfielder on the market to replace Casemiro, regardless of whether they can play in multiple roles, but it’s certainly an asset Camavinga possesses.

What did Eduardo Camavinga say after snubbing Man Utd in 2021?
During his presentation as a new Real Madrid signing, Camavinga stressed he didn’t think about another club once a move to Los Blancos became a possibility.
“Honestly, the first factor is not money, it is the pleasure of fulfilling a dream I had since I was little,” Camavinga said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
“When I found out that I could sign for Madrid, I didn’t think about it.
“The first factor for me was the pleasure of fulfilling the dream of playing for Real Madrid, playing with footballers who are going to teach me a lot.”
It remains to be seen if Camavinga will change his tune in the summer.
