'The giant is sleeping'... Matheus Cunha comments on'extraordinary'Man Utd hopes

Matheus Cunha’s debut season at Manchester United has been neither all good nor all bad, with plenty more to come from the Brazilian, as he predicts a big future.

Ruben Amorim signed Matheus Cunha as a specific system-built player, perfect for his 3-4-2-1 formation. However, now in a 4-2-3-1, Cunha doesn’t have a clearly defined position.

Deployed as a traditional winger, his role creates all sorts of issues for Manchester United regarding width and attacking balance, considering his natural inclination to narrow.

However, Cunha has still shown brilliance for United, and he has now set a lofty goal for his time at the club.

Matheus Cunha claims Manchester United will soon be awoken

The signings of Cunha and Mbeumo were considered a turning point for United in their return to the top, two quality additions at the top of their game.

But it hasn’t been all positive, with Cunha speaking to Caze TV, he explained how he doesn’t care about setbacks, because his ultimate goal is to bring the club back to the top.

“At no point do I think about the negative side of Manchester United. For me, it’s an extraordinary club.

“I joke that the giant is sleeping, and that we are going to wake it up.”

This has long been a joke within the fanbase that United was a sleeping giant, and Cunha saying he and his teammates will wake the club up is really encouraging to hear.

Can Matheus Cunha be part of Project 150?

Cunha has so far scored six goals for United in his debut campaign, assisting two, which is a decent tally considering he won’t play more than 35 games this season. However, the Brazilian has been very frustrating at times.

He often makes the wrong decision with the ball, shooting when open passes are the better choice to make, and it costs United. This raises doubts over whether he is consistent enough to win a league title.

These questions will be asked in the United boardroom, with Ineos’ project 150 target drawing ever closer.

Cunha’s biggest impact has been off the bench when he seemed determined to prove a point, while he isn’t as effective when starting.

This could change, Cunha’s first season at Wolves was also poor in comparison to his second and third, which United will be hoping also happens here.
