Two Man Utd legends'Antonin Kinsky defence validates Senne Lammens'superb Old Trafford rise– opinion

Peter Schmeichel and David de Gea’s immediate reaction to Antonin Kinsky’s woes for Tottenham should be a reminder of Senne Lammens’ important impact for Manchester United.

Tottenham brought Antonin Kinsky to the Premier League club from Slavia Prague in a £12.5m deal in January 2025 and the 22-year-old Czech’s spell has already taken an ugly turn in 2026.

Kinsky committed two howlers against Atletico Madrid on his Champions League debut for Tottenham and was hooked off after only 17 minutes in the match.

David de Gea reacted to Kinsky’s horror show even before the 5-2 loss was completed on Tuesday, while Peter Schmeichel was shocked by what he saw.

Peter Schmeichel pulled no punches towards Igor Tudor and accused the Tottenham interim head coach for how he “absolutely killed” Antonin Kinsky’s “career.”

“I feel really, really sorry for him,” he said on CBS Sports, as per the Metro.

The 62-year-old Manchester United legend added: “That’s going to have ramifications for the rest of his [Kinsky] career.

“This will be a moment that everybody in football will always remember every time they see and hear his name.”

Both Schmeichel and David de Gea are well-positioned to share their raw and immediate reactions to what happened to a shell-shocked Kinsky on Tuesday.

After all, United fans are all too aware of how difficult the Red Devils No 1 shirt is and how even legends like De Gea faced major struggles between the sticks.

The pressure of being the Man Utd No 1 is massive and the shirt worn by the likes of De Gea and Schmeichel weighed down on the likes of Andre Onana at Old Trafford.

Just looking at how United legends De Gea and Schmeichel reacted to Kinsky’s Tottenham woes, it only reinforces the impressive climb of Senne Lammens.

Senne Lammens enters his own ‘Man Utd No 1 challenge’ under Michael Carrick, unlike Antonin Kinsky’s Tottenham situation

Antonin Kinsky was essentially tossed into the lion’s den of the Metropolitano Stadium due to Guglielmo Vicario’s poor run of form for Tottenham.

Ironically, Igor Tudor had to withdraw the crestfallen Kinsky to bring on Guglielmo Vicario, who subsequently conceded three times for Spurs on Tuesday evening.

It would be like Michael Carrick throwing back-up Altay Bayindir into the lion’s den for the huge Premier League match between Man Utd and Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Premier League encounter at the weekend could be a pivotal moment for third-place Man Utd’s ambitions of securing Champions League football for next season.

However, Lammens’ stunning rise to the No 1 United shirt in his debut season at Old Trafford shows the unwavering faith that Carrick will already hold in him for the match.

The 23-year-old Belgium international is in a ‘unique’ position where he has already conquered one of football’s biggest ‘challenges’ by becoming United No 1.
